State Implementation and Classification
Description
This course aims to provide basic education skills to adults. It focuses primarily on literacy and numeracy skills and assumes that participants have little or no prior formal education.
Schedule
1.
The Certificate 1 in Entry to General Educations consists of two components:
- 8 core modules (340 hours)
- 180-200 hours of elective modules
To complete the certificate, students complete 340 hours of core modules from Group 01 and 180-200 hours of elective modules.
Electives may be drawn from the Group 02 list below or any other modules or units from Accredited Courses and Training Packages as suitable for the individual learner or group.

The three streams are:
- Reading and Writing (core)
- Mathematics (core)
- Oral Communication (elective).
The modules at the lower levels in each stream describe prerequisite skills. Note that students may possess these skills prior to commencement of the course and in this case can start at the appropriate higher level without the necessity for undertaking RPL. A successful completion of the higher module is evidence of completion of the lower module in each stream.
Students may also start at different points and/or progress at different rates in each stream.
Additionally, any module or unit from an accredited course or Training Package can be imported for use as an elective, subject to compliance with the assessment guidelines from the original qualification. These electives are to be selected with consideration of the needs of students as individuals and/or as a group.
