Description

To provide trade studies in the Automotive Trades.

To provide the theoretical basis and the development of skills and safe working
practices commonly found in the Automotive Industries.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In order to satisfy the requirements of this course, students must complete
core and elective units as shown below, totalling 936 hours.

Both student and total hours are notional and are guidelines for provider
management purposes only.

Instructors and students should be encouraged to take advantage of the
acceleration facility afforded by competency-based training.

In provider planning context:

a full module represents 36 hours

a half module represents 18 hours
3
a one and a half module represents 54 hours
4
a dual module represents 72 hours.

Work Experience Real Work Program

Pre-apprentices are encouraged to attend work experience (Real Work Program)
for up to 240 hours per year. The work experience program is supplementary to
the award requirements of the course.The work experience program is to be
co-ordinated by the college with the approval of the Director of the college.
The mode of attendance is at the discretion of the college co-ordinator.

1 Select 4 modules from GROUP 1 to complete the core of 684 hours. Selection from this group will depend on the provider and if the WA - Light Commercial or the National-Light Mechanical are delivered at the site. 2 Select 2 full equivalent modules from GROUP 2 to equal 72 hours. 3 Select the equivalent modules from GROUP 1, GROUP 2 or GROUP 3 to equal 180 hours. 4 Electives selected from GROUP 1, GROUP 2 and GROUP 3 should reflect the industry requirement for apprentices in the providers catchment area. 1 Completion of the NMEC and Automotive modules in this course will
provide the learner with the off- the-job component only. Competent
performance will be achieved when the learner can practise the skills and meet
the requirements of recognised competency schedules (eg. TTS).

2 CREDIT TRANSFER

Upon successful completion of the technical training section of this course,
the learner will be credited with the relevant modules in the Engineering
Tradesperson (Fabrication, Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic or Automotive)
and/or the Certificate of Production Engineering.

3 CERTIFICATE OF PRE-APPRENTICE STUDIES

To be eligible for the award of Certificate I of Pre-Apprentice Studies
(Automotive Trades) the learner must reach a pass standard or competence in all
modules of the course.
