State Implementation and Classification
Description
This Certificate will prepare the learner for employment by an organisation
that produces or processes oil or gas products however, it does not guarantee
employment.
Production and process operators work on production oil and gas platforms,
located either onshore or offshore, or at oil and gas production processing
plants. They monitor, maintain and control the equipment such as pumps,
compressors, valves and electronic instrumentation devices. Experienced
production and process operators monitor and control processes via
sophisticated computer systems from the control room.
The course has been designed to meet the entry level requirements of the
industry which were identified in the industry’s National Competency Standards
for Process and Production Operators (October 1995). The course focuses on the
key skills and competencies a potential employee within this industry would be
required to know and apply should they wish to commence employment as a
competent operator within this industry.
