To develop an understanding of
fundamental mathematical concepts,
operations and relationships.

To develop an awareness that
mathematics is an organised body of
knowledge.

To develop in the students, confidence in their ability to use mathematics

To pass this subject, students must
achieve at least 40% of the marks
allocated to each of the internal
assessment and examination components,
as well as an aggregate mark of 50% or
more.

Internal Assessment

At least 2 tests 30%
At least 3 assignments 20%

Assignments and tests should be
cumulative in nature. The following is
one possible test/assignment
schedule:

Test 1: A 1.5 hour written test on Topics 1 and 2

Test 2: A 1.5 hour written
test on Topics 1 to 5, with emphasis on
latter topics.

Assignment 1 covering Topic 1
Assignment 2 covering Topics 1 to 3
Assignment 3 covering Topics 1 to 5,
with emphasis on latter topics.

Examination

One two hour examination 50%
