Description
To provide students with the appropriate knowledge and methods involved with
the following:

-identification, selection and operation of equipment used in spray and low
volume irrigation.

-introductory concepts of designing an irrigation system.

-how irrigation needs may influence designs and choice of equipment.

-bores, wells and equipment required to raise the water into the irrigation
system.

-water quality, its importance and measurement.

A pass to be gained in BOTH components to
achieve an overall pass.

Final Examination of three
sections. Total 30%

Short answers - half of paper
Paragraph and short essays - quarter of paper
Complete an irrigation plan - quarter of paper.

Operation of a sprinkler:
Describe operation of sprinkler.
Practical experiment to determine precipitation
curve of two sprinklers.

Prepare a domestic irrigation plan to include:
- sprinkler selection
- sprinkler placement
- mainline placement
- pipes and size pipe
- prepare a materials list.

Excursions and Exercises 25%
At least one report on excursion.
Exercises to include:

Sprinkler overlaps and running times to:

(1) apply a required water application (2) pipeline flows and sizing
with sprinkler (3) low volume design as to maximum lengths and size submains
(4) calculate static and pumping buds and the power requirements of a system.
