1. Internal Assessment 100%

2. The presence of a co-examiner may be required to resolve borderline
assessments.

3. FLEECE SECTION - A pass will require an 80% mark in each of the
fleece groups.

3.1 Any one of the following classing errors would automatically result
in a fail:

3.1.1 Combination of mixed breeds. 3.1.2 Combination of four
quality counts. 3.1.3 Combination of A and C lengths in one line.
3.1.4 Inclusion of non-scourable colour in main lines. 3.1.5
Inclusion of tender wool in sound lines.

3.2 A fail in this section will require the student to repeat the whole
Woolclassing Practice 3.

4. SKIRTING AND ODDMENTS SECTION - A pass will require 80% accuracy in
recognition of each fault.

SUPPLEMENTARY: Available after a further minimum of 4 weeks verified
shed experience under a registered Woolclasser.

1. Assessment will require a time allocation per student for the staff
involved.

Time allocation suggested:

- setting up and packing away (required because of limited
space to set out 60 fleeces). 3 hours

- examination

o familiarization and oral 30 mins o practical
classing 120 mins o marking and admin 60
mins 3.5 hours

- Staffing time and numbers of candidates. Each candidate
requires 1.5 hours staff time and 2.0 hours supervision time.

2. Proficiency of students will be assessed in the following areas:

2.1 Visual grouping of fleeces to the standards set by the Code of
Practice.

2.2 Preparation of a classer's clip specification.

2.3 Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of clip preparation.

2.4 Classing fleeces at a specified rate.

2.5 Written competency and proficiency reports from the woolclasser as
per the attached summary.

2.6 Verbal de-briefing following on-the-job work experience.

3. The standard examination consists of:

3.1 20 selected merino fleeces (good/best top-making style) which are to
be classed to the standards set by the Code of Practice.

3.2 20 selected merino fleeces (average/inferior top-making style) which
are to be classed to the standards set by the

3.3 10 selected merino fleeces of a different category than 3.1 and 3.2
which are to be classed to the standards set by the Code of Practice.

3.3.1 A maximum of three non-Merino fleeces will be integrated into the
set of good/best top-making style.

3.4 10 selected fleeces of non-Merino origin to be classed to the
standards set by the Code of Practice.

3.5 A detailed report will be completed of one group of 20 fleeces by
the way of the standard Australian Wool Corporation Woolclassers specification
sheet. The examiner will select the appropriate set.

3.6 The maximum time allowed for practical classing will be 90 minutes.

3.7 The maximum time allowed for completion of the Woolclassers
specification sheet will be 20 minutes.

4. SKIRTINGS AND ODDMENTS SECTION

4.1 The student will correctly identify the following wool types and
indicate faults, if any.

Section A

Pieces
Bellies Lamb's Wool

Section B

Discoloured
Prematurely Shorn Wool Locks

Section C

Stained pieces
Crutchings

4.2 A test group will consist of all of Section A and any one component
of both Section B and Section C.

4.3 A pass in this section requires:

4.3.1 Correct identification of any fault in Section A. 4.3.2
Correct identification of stain in Section A and Section B. 4.3.3 Correct
identification of not less than 50% of

4.4 Where stain is not recognised then the entire examination must be
repeated, following a further 4 weeks of supervised practical shed experience.

Where an error of clip preparation other
than stain is not identified then the
student will repeat Section 4 only.

4.5 The maximum time allowed for assessment for these wools would be 10
minutes.

5. SHED SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT

5.1 The student will demonstrate the ability to correctly instruct shed
hands in the following duties:

5.1.1 Picking up and throwing of a
fleece.
5.1.2 Skirting of fleece. 5.1.3 Stain removal from bellies.
5.1.4 Removal of inferior backs. 5.1.5 Preparation of pieces to
approved industry standards. 5.1.6 Penning up. 5.1.7 Floor sweeping.

A pass requires the competent
demonstration of an effective instruction
in a minimum of three of the ABOVE duties.

5.2 The student, given appropriate floor plans, will demonstrate the
ability to efficiently organise the wool handling areas of at least three shed
designs which must include:

5.2.1 Across the board. 5.2.2 Straight board. 5.2.3 Raised
board. 5.2.4 Semi-circular board.

A pass requires the student to demonstrate
an appreciation of the need for efficiency
of labour, reduction of the possibility of
mixing lines and elimination of
contamination.

5.3 The maximum time allowed for assessment of this section would be 30
minutes.

6. When the students have completed the required experience and the log
book has been satisfactorily completed, the student will apply to the college
for examination. This examination will be based upon the above layout.
