Description
To introduce the theory of soil
behaviour, and apply this theory to
standard tests used in soil
laboratories.

Examination 70% Internal Assessment 30%

One three hour examination 70%

A minimum of six (6) laboratory
exercises to be completed based on the
major topics as outlined in the student
objectives. E.g.:

- Atterberg limits
- Permeability and pH of soils
- Direct shear test
- Sand replacement test
- CBR test
- Proctor compaction test

Each exercise worth 5%.

Laboratory Assessment may be carried
forward 1 year.

A pass in both examination and
laboratory work is required.
