Description
To provide instruction and training in the use of
individual dictation machines so that students who
have a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm may simulate
the role of an audio-typist and produce mailable
(useable) copy from office style dictation.
To develop initiative by the inclusion of taped
instructions requiring students to compose
correspondence, make alterations to drafts and refer
to supplementary material for the purpose of
eliciting information.

A recorded examination tape, for use on an
individual transcription machine is to be used.
Content of examination to be approximately 1000
words.
Duration of examination 2.5 hours. This includes approximately half an hour
for:
- Checking equipment and stationery
- Reading the Instruction to Candidate sheet
- Typing the practice piece at the commencement of the tape.
Such an employer would give, but not to include
assistance in elementary matters of
formatting, punctuation, etc. Students are asked to
refer to supplementary material for the purpose of
eliciting information necessary to carry out the
work being dictated wherever possible.
Duration of transcription time for the tape is 2
hours.
File/carbon copies and envelopes are not to be included in the examination.
Candidates are expected to supply follow-up checklist or reminder sheet for
details to be attended to including copies to be made, documents to be
distributed, copy notations to be entered on file and distribution copies after
duplication of master documents.
A detailed marking guide will be provided by the
examiner for each question on the tape.
