Description
To enable learners to perform common laboratory and field procedures with
protozoan and invertebrate materials, including the collection, identification
and display of specimens.

Range of Variables
This module is designed for off-the-job delivery and will provide skills for
technicians working in a great variety of settings. Learners may be working,
or intending to work, in fauna monitoring, zoos, museums, or in various areas
of laboratory or field-based research. In fifty hours it is not possible to
develop a high level of skill across all possible contexts (eg, if drawing is
emphasised, the hours of work needed to develop accurate drawing skills may
preclude the development of high levels of skill in establishing cultures and
displays). Therefore, training providers will need to emphasise those skills
most appropriate to the needs of their own learners. It should also be possible
to provide opportunities for learners to negotiate individual learning
contracts allowing them to concentrate on the skills most needed in their own
workplaces. Provision for work-based assignments is also a possibility.
