Evidence Guide
Examination 50% Internal
Assessment 50%

A pass in one component and a minimum of 45% in the
other is required for an overall pass.

Internal assessment must comprise the following:

A complete Sale by Sample Test Certificate with
additional measurements (for length and strength) is
to be provided by each student. The due date of
this assignment is to be no later than 2 weeks
before the end of semester exam.

Laboratory tests to be carried out:

- Wool Base: A complete test for Wool Base, VM Base and
Mean Fibre Diameter is to be carried out on ONE (1) sub-sample.

Residual Tests: Laboratory tests on selected
sub-samples of wool are to be carried out and
the results used to calculate wool base yield.
The tests will be on:

. Vegetable Matter . Residual Grease Content . Residual Ash Content

- Average Fibre Diameter: A total of two (2) methods of
fibre diameter measurement must be used on two prepared test plugs:

. Projection Microscope . Airflow Meter

The results of the Mean Fibre Diameter from the
two test methods mentioned above are to be
shown for each of the two test plugs.

- Commercial Yield Calculations: Results for the 4
Commercial Yields from the wool sample are to be calculated from the wool base
results along with the individual clean weights.

- Staple Length and Strength Measurement: 60 staples are to
be selected (using the grid method) for length and strength. Mean and CoV% are
to be expressed for length, as well as Mean Staple Strength and Position of
Break.

- Statistical Analysis (Staple Length): The Standard
Deviation and Co-Efficient of Variation Percentage of Staple Length is to be
measured and calculated from 50 fibres using the Projection Microscope method.

Mark Allocation:

- Test Certificate results for Wool Base, Commercial Yields
and Mean Fibre Diameter 35
