Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use penetration testing methodology frameworks and tools to test for and find vulnerabilities in organisational networks and to exploit their weaknesses.
It involves using networking protocols to exchange data between hosts and requires an understanding of network functionality and the attack methods used to exploit network weaknesses.
The unit applies to those working as offensive cyber security professionals, either within their own organisation or as independent cyber security researchers. As members of penetration testing teams, they apply penetration testing methodology, to identify, plan and report on vulnerabilities to organisations in various fields and industry sectors, with the aim of strengthening their infrastructure defences.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
