An understanding of various chemical principles and techniques is essential in the field of environmental science and/or management in order to assist with the identification and ongoing minimisation, remediation or management of various environmental issues. This unit is designed to provide participants with an introduction to chemistry principles and concepts that will often assist with understanding what is happening within the environment and what can be done to correct problems that arise. Implicit in environmental chemistry is consideration of various rates, scales and types of natural chemical processes that occur within the environment, and how they can be influenced. It should be noted that this unit is not designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for those seeking employment and/or training in relation to laboratory operations.
