Description
This unit specifies the repair and/or replacement of mechanical and electrical components of electrical apparatus relevant to the normal way of doing work in Australia.

This unit is for holders of an Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) or Australian Technical Competencies Statement (ATCS) issued by an RTO and incorporates the minimum context gap to meet Australian standards and regulations.

This unit shall only be undertaken by holders of an OTSR or ATCS for the following qualification or successor of the following qualification:
- UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician

Entrants must hold a provisional/restricted licence issued by the Australian state or territory regulatory authority responsible for regulating electrical work and the licensing of workers.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to repair electrical apparatus
  • 1.1 Work Health and Safety (WHS) procedures for the given work area are obtained from work supervisor according to established procedures
  • 1.2 Instruction in hazards and risk control measures for specific work functions and work areas are identified and obtained
  • 1.3 The nature of the repair is obtained from documentation or from work supervisor to establish the scope of work to be undertaken
  • 1.4 Sources of components/materials that may be required for the repairs are established in accordance with established routines and procedures
  • 1.5 Tools, apparatus and testing devices needed to carry out the repair work are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety
2. Repair electrical apparatus
  • 2.1 Established WHS risk control measures and procedures for carrying out the repair work are followed
  • 2.2 Apparatus is dismantled in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and enterprise procedures
  • 2.3 Component parts are tagged during the dismantling to help ensure correct and efficient reassembly and stored to protect them against loss or damage as per established routine procedures
  • 2.4 Repairs are affected efficiently without damage to other components, apparatus or circuits
  • 2.5 Apparatus is assembled in an appropriate sequence with all components parts placed, secured and connected in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions or industry practice
  • 2.6 Repairs are carried out efficiently without unnecessary waste of materials or damage to apparatus and the surrounding environment or services and using sustainable energy practices
3. Complete and report repair work activities
  • 3.1 WHS work completion risk control measures and procedures are followed
  • 3.2 Repaired apparatus work is documented and forwarded to work supervisor
  • 3.3 Work area is cleaned and made safe in accordance with established procedures
  • 3.4 Work supervisor is notified of the completion of the repair work in accordance with established procedures
