Description
As a terminal subject it aims to give students basic
working knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics,
construction, principles of operation and testing of
heat engines, reciprocating air compressors and steam
plant.
As a progression subject it aims to serve as a foundation for the specialised
study of subjects in final stage of the Associate Diploma.

Assessment 30%
One three hour examination
A minimum of eight Laboratory Reports to be completed
and written up in line with the standard formal report
writing procedures of the study area.
Laboratory assessment may be carried forward one year.
Laboratory test sheets are available from the study
area leader. Actual tests carried out will depend on
the equipment available at the College.
A pass is required in both examination and laboratory
assessment.
