This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify and use information on building and construction processes, materials and equipment. Processes include the order, basic characteristics and interrelationships between building and construction processes, including pre and post-construction processes.
This is a knowledge-based unit of competency which is applied by new entrants to non-trade roles in the building and construction industry who apply information on construction processes, materials and equipment to tasks such as estimating, costing and drafting.

Determine features of the building and construction industry that affect processes
- 1.12 Identify different trades and non‐trade occupations commonly engaged in the building and construction industry and related processes
- 1.13 Identify materials in common use in building and construction in local areas, their general characteristics, availability and related processes
- 1.14 Identify typical machinery and equipment required to complete or improve building and construction processes
Determine the nature and sequencing of fundamental processes used in building and construction
- 2..10 Source information on building and construction processes according to workplace standards
- 2.11 Determine fundamental processes associated with construction of buildings and infrastructure, their basic characteristics and how processes interrelate
