Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required by EAL learners to read and write short, highly familiar digital and/or paper-based messages, and to read and complete highly familiar forms for immediate personal needs.

The outcomes described in this unit relate to:
- the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). They contribute to the achievement of ACSF indicators of competence for Reading and Writing at Pre Level 1 and Level 1

and

- the ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Ratings) descriptors for Reading and Writing. They partly contribute to the achievement of Reading 1 and Writing 1.

This unit applies to learners who need to develop basic reading and writing skills in English to satisfy immediate personal needs in familiar highly predictable contexts.
