Description
This unit specifies the essential outcomes to safely and effectively verify compliance, functionality and aspects that are critical to the safety of low voltage electrical installations and performance criteria by which competency is to be assessed.

This unit is for holders of Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) or Australian Technical Competencies Statement (ATCS) issued by an RTO and incorporated the minimum context gap to meet Australian standards
and regulations.

This unit shall only be undertaken by holders of an OTSR or ATCS for the following qualification or successor of the following qualification:
- UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician

Entrants must hold a provisional/restricted licence issued by the Australian state or territory regulatory authority responsible for regulating electrical work and the licensing of workers.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to verify compliance, functionality and aspect critical to safety
  • 1.1 The scope and nature of the work is obtained from the person responsible for the site
  • 1.2 Particular hazards and risk control measures at the site are obtained from the person responsible for safety at the site
  • 1.3 Safer work methods are obtained and understood including clearance to undertake verification, commissioning and/or decommissioning work
  • 1.4 Required personal protective equipment is obtained and checked for safety
  • 1.5 Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000) requirements for verification inspection and mandatory testing including compliant test results are reviewed
  • 1.6 Procedures for compliance, functionality and aspects critical to the safety in commissioning and decommissioning electrical circuits and equipment are obtained
  • 1.7 Tools and electrical testing devices required for the work are checked to ensure they are safe and serviceable
2. Verify compliance, functionality and aspect critical to safety.
  • 2.1 Safe work methods for the work are precisely followed
  • 2.2 Visual inspection of the completed electrical work is carried out in reference to the requirements and checklist provided in the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000)
  • 2.3 Mandatory tests are carried out following the test sequence given in the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000)
  • 2.4 Additional mandatory tests are carried out for isolated supplies and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems in installations where these are installed
  • 2.5 A failed test and any preceding tests that may have been influenced by the fault indicated are repeated after the fault has been rectified
  • 2.6 Equipment covers and connections that were accessed to conduct mandatory tests are replaced as required for compliance
3. Complete and document verification results and outcomes
  • 3.1 WHS house-keeping procedures are followed to make sure the work area safe
  • 3.2 Inspection and mandatory testing results and outcomes are documented as required under local electrical safety regulations for the applicable jurisdiction
  • 3.3 Copies of the documentation are distributed as required under local electrical safety regulations for the applicable jurisdiction
