To identify the range of specialist
areas within the discipline of lighting
engineering and the role of the
interior designer;
To distinguish between basic light
quantities used by engineers,
architects and in manufacturers'
literature;
To relate basic physiology of the human eye to the need to live within the
environment;
To differentiate light output
characteristics of different electric
light sources;
To identify types and categories of
luminaries and interpret basic light
output distribution patterns;
To nominate recommended service
illuminances for visual tasks and areas
in accordance with Australian
Standards;
To prepare a specification brief for general and specific commercial lighting
requirements for draftspersons, lighting engineers, architects and clients;
To design the lighting installation of
a simple residential dwelling; and
To appraise the quality of a lighting
installation using the criteria
prescribed by the
