Description
To introduce the concepts of logic programming
through the programming language prolog. (Clocksin
and Mellish to be used as the standard).

Students must pass the written paper. Where a mark
is achieved in the written paper, the overall mark
is the sum of the two components weighted as shown
above. Otherwise, the overall mark is determined by 100% weighting for
the written paper.
Examination
The examination will consist of 6 questions, 5 of which must be attempted. All
questions should have equal weighting. All questions should be comprised of a
number of small exercises.
- Classical, propositional and predicate logic.
- Clausal logic, resolution, Horn clauses.
- Develop a simple Prolog programme from an initial set of
clauses, tree trace of a query, revision.
- Data structures, list processing.
- Operator directives, controlling backtracking,
extralogical and metalogical predicates, database manipulation.
- Sorting, trees, graphs, mapping.
Internal Assessment
- Large Prolog programme incorporating as many features as
possible 20%
- Logic exercises 10%
