To teach the functions of the major computer
hardware components.
To provide an understanding of logical operations
through the use of Boolean Algebra.

One two-hour written paper 70%
Internal Assessment (2 items) 30%
Students must pass the written paper.
Where a pass is achieved in the written paper, the
overall mark is the sum of the two components,
weighted as shown above. Otherwise, the overall
mark is determined by 100% weighting for the written
paper.
Written Examination 70%
The examination will consist of 7 questions on the
theory related to:
- hardware components and assembly level machine organisation
- memory organisation and architecture
- data representation
- digital logic and Boolean Algebra
- interrupts
- secondary storage
- operating systems.
Internal Assessment 30%
- Practical exercise using a Microcomputer (15%)
- Practical exercise using a Microcomputer (15%)
