To enable the student to effectively operate the radar of a vessel operating in
coastal waters, for navigation and collision avoidance and is for students
without seatime.

Demonstrate the ability to obtain the optimum display from a radar installation.
Demonstrate the ability to obtain the position of a vessel using radar.
Identify from a radar scenario simulation targets that are dangerous to the
observers vessel. Identify the appropriate action to be taken to avoid
collision with dangerous targets in good and restricted visibility.
A one hour written examination on the theoretical components of the course,
pass mark 60%, with questions from a range of the assessment criteria.
Oral examination on all aspects of the course.
