Description
To equip the student with the skills to solve
advanced cadastral and engineering survey
computations problems using the knowledge acquired
in Survey Computations 1A and 1B. Furthermore, the
student must develop the ability to apply knowledge
and derive solutions to problems analytically, not
only in standard problem situations but in
unfamiliar situations.
To further the student's mastery of computational
skills, both long hand and computer aided, used in
the solution of these problems.
To introduce the student to the programming of the
Hewlett Packard Advanced Programmable Calculator or
equivalent device, and its application to survey
computations using existing software.

Continuous assessment comprising programming
assignments and written tests.
Part A (60%)
A programming assignment involving:
- Alpha prompts
- a minimum of 2 input variables
- a minimum of 2 output variables
- validation
- use of printer 10%
A higher level programming assignment performed as
an individual student project, with the complexity
tailored to each student's personal aptitude for
computer programming, involving:
- efficient use of relevant functions
- loops/branching
- user instructions 20%
A 2 hour two part written test covering part A
objectives, and comprising:
Part 1 - Short answers
(No aids or calculators permitted) 15%
Part 2 - Programming and program interpretation
(calculator and manuals provided) 15%
Part B (40%)
A two hour open book written test in which students
are required to:
- solve (using calculators and software provided)
- describe their method of solution of survey computations
problems as described in Section B of the objectives.
* In order to pass this subject a student must achieve a minimum of 40%
of the available marks in each section of the assessment, and a minimum
aggregate mark of 50%.
