the current provision of welfare services.
To introduce students to the discipline of welfare
work and the role of the Welfare Worker.

a Students are required to research an assigned social service provider
and give a presentation to the class. The presentation should include
information on:
- address and contact numbers
- description of service provided
- hours of service
- special requirements or features of service.
File 20%
Students are to develop a resource file using
information gathered from the class presentations.
The file should have the following features:
- cross-referencing by name and service provision
- adequate information on each service or organisation
- easy retrieval and accessibility of information
- ability to be easily updated.
Essay (1000 words) 35%
Students are required to write an essay on the role
of the Welfare Worker and professionalism, giving
particular attention to the Code of Ethics.
Role-Plays
Through the use of role-plays in class, students should be exposed to a variety
of dilemmas facing welfare workers in the field.
Students must participate in the role-plays and the
subsequent discussion. Discussion should focus on
ethical theories and the professional Code of
Ethics.
