Description
To expose learners to various aspects of modern construction practice within
structural engineering.
To undertake research into, and make a presentation of an aspect of
construction practice.
This project could be related to a learner’s current or planned employment,
but not necessarily.

Range of Variables
This module contains a research project. The form of the delivery will vary
but it is envisaged that there will be one or two introductory lectures to give
the background to the module and examples of projects that could be undertaken,
prior to each learner agreeing with the lecturer on a topic into which they
will undertake research. Depending on the scope and complexity of the topic,
the lecturer may agree to a joint submission by more than one learner.
For the remainder of the course, weekly meetings between the learners and the
lecturer will take place in lieu of conventional lectures so that the lecturer
can assist the learner in completing the project and keep the learner on
track. This phase of the module is thought to be of great importance so as to
keep the learners on track, both content wise and time wise.
Learners are expected to present a talk on their research topic to a group.
