To provide the learner with an integrated theoretical knowledge and the
practical experience necessary to incorporated transverse friction and deep
tissue techniques into the performance of a professional massage. The learner
will use both formulaic and problem-solving techniques.

Practical Internal Assessment 2
1 Continuous internal assessment of deep tissue techniques and
transverse friction techniques
2 Practical Assessment 1 - the student will demonstrate the application
of appropriate deep tissue techniques on a nominated area of pain during a
timed professional massage. The performance should be conducted in a manner
displaying the student's problem-solving ability.
Pain area will be in either:
- upper portion of the body
- lower portion of the body.
3 Practical Assessment 2 - the student will demonstrate the application
of transverse friction, using the flat of the hands, the fingers and the thumb
in an appropriate manner, on the origin, insertion and belly of nominated
muscle groups during a timed professional massage.
The experiential aspect of the competencies to be achieved in this module will
require the learner to attend a minimum of 20 hours to obtain a pass.
A pass in all assessments is required.
