Evidence Guide
Internal Assessment 100%
In order to gain a pass in Typing Secretarial
Procedures, the student shall complete an integrated
typing assessment requiring resourcefulness and
organisational ability, given:
- time allocation of 2½½ hours, which includes 15 minutes
reading/warm-up time
- originating input, comprising six or seven related typing
tasks in corrected manuscript from author's instructions, including standard
paragraphs
- a dictionary and correcting devices
- the opportunity to correct errors and retype where needed
- sufficient stationery to attempt each question twice, so
that a useable letter and five or six other typewritten documents may be
produced.
ASSESSMENT MARKING
One hundred marks to be allotted proportionately to
allow for differences in difficulty and content
between the questions.
GENERAL DEDUCTIONS (For all questions)
Marks to be deducted.
Failure to follow instructions (depending -2 to -5
on seriousness), i.e. if wrong paper used, not used
in the correct way, such as if told to fold in
booklet form and used as a straight page, or
letterheaded paper not used, when told to do so.
ASSESSMENT MARKING
One letter not put in uppercase when instructed to
do so -2
Non-correctable errors, i.e. where instructions are
misinterpreted -5
Omissions - line left out -5
Insertions - line inserted
Bad corrections (overall) Up to -5
Overstriking -4
Uncorrected typographical errors -2
(These errors are heavily penalised as they should
not appear on mailable copy)
Stress GOOD PROOFREADING
Word omitted or inserted -2
Correctable errors - such as: -1
- Reference omitted
- Date omitted
- Punctuation (all above can be easily corrected)
DISPLAY
Check specifically for:
- General appearance -2
- Vertical and horizontal placement. Look for reasonable
balance on the paper - side margins, and top and bottom margin spaces should be
approximately even
- Consistency in, and correctness of, style
- Variety of presentation (where applicable) (Do not
penalise unnecessarily)
TABULATION
This must be displayed evenly on the page (bearing in mind that an employer
will not require a typist to retype work if it looks balanced on the page).
Provided that it is reasonably balanced, both horizontally and vertically, it
should be passed.
Marks to be deducted as follows:
Margin, column spacing, general display of
work -1 to -5
Headings omitted, word omitted as for general
deduction omissions (applies to insertions as well)
All other deductions as for General Deductions
