Description
To provide training to effectively meet the needs of indigenous children in group care and early childhood settings in a culturally appropriate manner.
Range of Variables
The theoretical knowledge underpinning the practical skills of this module has been covered in Caring for Indigenous Children (0-5).
The outcomes of this module must be demonstrated on-the-job, therefore completion of this module is dependent upon the learner having access to a Supervised Field Placement (SFP)
A suitable learning environment on-the-job is required to provide the learner with peer contact and appropriate role models. It is recommended that centres with significant number of Indigenous children be used.
It is recommended that consultation with appropriate Indigenous organisations and communities be carried out.
It is recommended that staff members have cross cultural skills with qualifications in education, child care, history, social sciences or Indigenous Studies.
It is highly desirable that some staff members are Indigenous people.
