To provide an introduction to engineering geology, by means of a practical
module in elementary mineralogy, petrology, structure, mapping and some
engineering implications of geology, primarily for surveying students.

Assessment weighting of components should be:
-practical tests 40%
-practical exercises and assignments 10%
-field work and tests on field work 20%
-final written test or examination 30%
A pass in each is essential to pass the module.
At least 4 practical tests, describing and identifying minerals and rocks,
throughout the module. Worksheets and tests on the field trips. Class
exercises and assignments on practical work. A final test or examination of 2
hours duration to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of engineering
geology.
