This module provides an overview of the operation of gas piston engines along with the associated components and parts. This module along with the workplace evidence specified in module 7112E will enable a student to achieve the unit of competence MEAM36A Dismantle, Inspect, Maintain and Assemble Aircraft Piston Engine Components or Parts.
The module is designed for trainees or others who have access to a aircraft maintenance facility dealing in the repair or overhaul of piston engines.

The assessment strategy for this module will be on the learners understanding of the operating principles of basic components in piston engines. This may be assessed through oral questioning, written tests, assignments or practical projects.
