Description
To provide instruction, training and practice in
taking down letters, memos and simple displays (eg
agenda, advertisements, invitations, notice of
meetings with agenda or general notices) in
shorthand from office style dictation at speeds
varying from 60-70 wpm containing alterations
(insertions and deletions). Instruction and
practice to be given in producing a useable
(mailable) typed copy of correspondence and
displayed material from shorthand notes.

The assessment/s must take place under officially
controlled conditions.
Four office tasks dictated as in an office situation
at 60 wpm - 70 wpm including, 1 letter, 1 memorandum
and 1 display with at least a fifteen second pause
between each question.
Each question should be related to another so that
the overall content of the assessment deals with a
specific topic or theme.
The final typed useable (mailable) copy excluding
addresses should have a content of approximately
300-400 words.
There must be one continuous passage dictated at 70
wpm for one minute in one of the questions.
The students are to be allowed double stationery
only to complete the assessment.
One hour to be allowed for transcription.
Competency principles apply. When the student has
passed one assessment this satisfies the
requirements for the subject.
