Description
To enable the learner to perform basic techniques and to gain an understanding
of the technology employed in the isolation, purification, and analysis of
nucleic acids.
To provide the learner with basic knowledge of the applications of nucleic acid
technologies in diverse industries (eg, medicine, agriculture, manufacturing,
environmental rehabilitation, etc).

Range of Variables
This module has been designed for off-the-job delivery and requires reasonable
access to equipment currently in use in a basic recombinant DNA laboratory.
Where suitable arrangements can be made, on the job delivery of the module or
part of the module is appropriate provided the learning outcomes are met.
The module content is best scheduled over a semester period. Block release for
practical sessions is appropriate if on-the-job delivery forces more limited
access to facilities.
