Description
To provide learners with the skills required to examine the chemical nature of
our environment and the parameters by which its quality is assessed.

The learner will be able to:

- link the causes, sources and consequences of pollution and hazardous
wastes
- apply chemical principles to the understanding and effective
management of typical environmental disturbances
- associate legislative requirements and other regulations with
particular chemical aspects of hazards and wastes.
Range of Variables
This module is best delivered off-the-job because of the requirement to cover
skills relevant to many industrial sectors. (It is possible that on-the-job
delivery may unduly focus on only those parts of the module that fit with the
organisation’s expertise and interests).

Ideally, delivery should occur via a minimum of 4 hours per contact session to
allow learners to complete integrated activities, access resources, and to
permit skills to be practised and assessed.

Learners should anticipate that an additional two hours study per contact
session will be required to complete study, reports and general revision.

For full-time learners, the module should be delivered over a single semester
and classroom and laboratory activities should be integrated. In the absence
of concurrent workplace experience, it is essential that the teaching
strategies allow adequate time for skills acquisition and inter-mod
