Description
To supply the Architectural Drafting student with a
background to the science of surveying.

To enable the gaining of sufficient basic surveying
skills, to carry out elementary measurements of a
building site.

To enable the production of a site plan, and
calculation of areas and volumes, from these
measurements.

Practical work is designed to supplement the theory, and reinforce the
surveying techniques.

Suggested Practicals

Chain measurement of a line.

Mapping of a naturally irregular area, by the chain
survey method.

An "as constructed" chain survey, using the optical
square.

An "as constructed" survey, using a theodolite. Levelling a closed traverse.

Field check of level for collimation error.

Grid levels for drawing contour plans and volume
calculations.

Levelling of a grade line for building footings.

Setting out of a proposed building, using chain
surveying and optical square.
