Description
This is a general qualification for a person engaged in the installation and maintenance of mechanical rail signalling equipment.
It involves a broad range of skilled applications in a wide variety of contexts, which may involve application of some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures. It may also include responsibility for coordinating the work of others.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSThe entry requirement for this qualification is the 7 core units of competency from TLI21315 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure listed below or relevant industry experience gained by working within the rail infrastructure environment.
Entry requirement units:
- TLIB1028 Maintain and use hand tools
- TLID1001 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
- TLIE1003 Participate in basic workplace communication
- TLIF1001 Follow work health and safety procedures
- TLIF2010 Apply fatigue management strategies
- TLIF2080 Safely access the rail corridor
- TLIU2008 Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure
PACKAGING RULES
A total of eighteen (18) units of competency comprising:
- eleven (11) core units listed below plus
- seven (7) general elective units from the general elective units listed below. Up to three (3) of the general elective units may be selected from any relevant nationally endorsed Training Package. The general elective units must contribute to the vocational outcomes of the qualification.
Where imported units are selected, care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisite units specified are complied with.
The following imported unit has a prerequisite unit:
- UETTDRRF02B Perform pole top rescue.

2. General Elective Units
Seven (7) units may be chosen from the general elective units listed.
