Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to maintain network assets using class A and/or B rated high pressure water systems.It includes preparing for work, completing on-site preparation, setting up, reinstating and completing asset cleaning or clearing job.This unit applies to those using high pressure water systems to undergo cleaning or clearing of network assets. Those undertaking this unit would work independently while performing routine tasks with a moderate level of complexity in familiar contexts.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Workplace policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Interpret and follow job requirements and complete site and work control requirements
  • 1.2 Identify hazards, assess risks and implement control measures
  • 1.3 Select, check and load consumables, correct equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for job
2 Complete on-site preparation
  • 2.1 Confirm job scope, location and requirements with relevant personnel and stakeholders
  • 2.2 Read, interpret and follow job-related documentation
  • 2.3 Confirm required quantity and quality of water is available
3 Set up asset cleaning or clearing job
  • 3.1 Prepare worksite to comply with job, safety and environmental requirements
  • 3.2 Inspect, assemble and check asset cleaning or clearing equipment in accordance with asset cleaning or clearing procedures
  • 3.3 Complete pre-start checks on system, test emergency shut-off and have equipment repaired prior to starting job if not functional
4 Undertake asset cleaning or clearing job
  • 4.1 Start up high pressure cleaning or clearing equipment for safe operation and test emergency stop, as required
  • 4.2 Access network assets and place fall arrest system according to organisational procedures, if required
  • 4.3 Attach protection devices for hoses according to organisational procedures
  • 4.4 Remove obstructions and materials from the network assets and dispose of according to organisational procedures
  • 4.5 Monitor job, conditions, hazards and equipment and maintain agreed real-time visual communication
5 Complete asset cleaning or clearing job
  • 5.1 Shut down asset cleaning or clearing equipment and store according to organisational procedures, as required
  • 5.2 Reinstate assets in accordance with site requirements
  • 5.3 Disassemble equipment when safe to do so
  • 5.4 Clean job site and equipment and ensure appropriate disposal of all waste
  • 5.5 Disassemble exclusion zones when access to area is safe
  • 5.6 Maintain, store and secure equipment and materials according to workplace instructions
  • 5.7 Identify and action restock requirements for spares and consumables
  • 5.8 Report job completion and details of any issues arising from the task in accordance with client or organisational requirements
