This unit applies to all enterprises conducting recreational vehicle servicing and repairs where assessing and quoting the job is required. The following explanations identify how this unit may be applied in different workplaces and circumstances.
The definition of a recreational vehicle includes:
caravan
pop-top caravan
camper trailer
tent trailer
5 th wheeler
slide-on camper
campervan
motor home.
Customers may include:
recreational vehicle owners/users
recreational vehicle retailers
recreational vehicle service contractors
insurance companies.
Materials, parts and equipment include:
hand and power tools
small plant
replacement materials, floorcoverings, panelling, furnishings
components and running gear
parts and accessories.
Repair or service costs include those associated with:
labour
materials
parts
fixings, fittings
appliances
equipment - use or hire.

Essential Knowledge and Skills to Be Assessed
Knowledge and skills in the following areas must be assessed as part of this unit:
the requirements of the Codes of Practice of the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers' Association of Australia (RVMAA)
features of different recreational vehicle types and makes and their design and structural features
reading and interpreting typical floor plans, drawings and manuals of recreational vehicles
recommended service and maintenance requirements and schedules for recreational vehicles
details, features and current costs of components, materials and parts
required equipment for the job and any associated costs and transport requirements
planning and organisation of work
customer service, negotiation and communication skills
basic mathematical skills for estimating and calculating materials, parts, time and labour costs.

This unit relates to all other recreational vehicle servicing units where assessing and quoting a job is required. Training and assessment could be combined with other relevant servicing units .

Context of Assessment and Resource Implications
Assessment must include:
work activities that allow the candidate to prepare a quotation for a range of typical service and repair situations and problems, including repair/service of chassis, walls, roof, furnishing, piping/wiring for services, accessories, appliances and running gear.
Assessment Methods
Assessment methods must be chosen to ensure that the skills to assess and prepare quotation for the repair and service of a recreational vehicle can be practically demonstrated. Methods must include assessment of knowledge as well as assessment of practical skills.
The following examples are appropriate for this unit:
project or work activities to prepare quotations for multiple repair/service situations and problems
oral or written questions about accessing parts, materials, equipment and tools
oral or written questions about features of recreational vehicle designs and models
review of quotations prepared by the candidate
review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate.
