Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to respond to emergency and rescue incidents.Work health and safety requirements should be followed at all times and form part of the planning and response activities.This unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work. They use discretion and judgement in the selection and use of available resources.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for response
- 1.1 Check equipment to ensure availability and serviceability
- 1.2 Obtain task and operational instructions
- 1.3 Confirm location details of incident
- 1.4 Select and use personal protective equipment
- 1.5 ntify local environment conditions
2. Respond to incident
- 2.1 Travel to incident location in a safe and efficient manner
- 2.2 Maintain communication with base station and other personnel at all times
- 2.3 Carry out on site search activities as necessary
3. Rescue is effected
- 3.1 Assess and monitor incident scene for hazards and appropriateness of planned procedures
- 3.2 Modify planned procedures where necessary in response to local circumstances
- 3.3 Provide support to other rescue services as appropriate
- 3.4 Obtain access to casualties safely
- 3.5 Operate equipment safely and appropriately
- 3.6 Communicate the progress of the rescue to appropriate people
- 3.7 Treat and monitor casualties and move to safety
4. Implement post incident responses
- 4.1 Recover, clean and service equipment
- 4.2 Complete documentation
- 4.3 Report incidents
