Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate a concrete agitator. It includes systematically and efficiently controlling all vehicle functions, monitoring traffic and road conditions, and managing vehicle condition and performance in accordance with relevant state or territory roads and traffic authority licence requirements and regulations for an agitator.It also includes preparing a vehicle, monitoring and maintaining vehicle performance, delivering concrete to site and finalising concrete delivery.Work is performed with limited supervision, and with duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare vehicle
  • 1.1 Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
  • 1.2 Pre-operational vehicle and agitator check is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Concrete is charged to agitator and slump is adjusted in accordance with customer requirements and workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Vehicle exterior is cleaned prior to departure in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.5 Most efficient route of travel is determined to achieve safety, customer and regulatory requirements
  • 1.6 Traffic and road conditions are constantly monitored and acted on to enable safe operation
  • 1.7 Emergency procedures are followed in a driving emergency
2 Monitor and maintain vehicle performance
  • 2.1 Performance position and efficiency of vehicle operation are monitored during use
  • 2.2 Defective or irregular performance and malfunctions are reported to appropriate authority
  • 2.3 Vehicle records are updated and maintained, and information is processed in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Deliver concrete to site
  • 3.1 Pre-site check is completed, including checking soft or uneven group, cross slops and overhead powerlines, before entry onto worksite in accordance with regulatory and workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn in accordance with workplace policies
  • 3.3 Vehicle is parked and secured in accordance with manufacturer specifications, traffic regulations and workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Ancillary equipment is attached and operated in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 3.5 Concrete is discharged in accordance with customer requirements, workplace policies and procedures
4 Finalise concrete delivery
  • 4.1 Relevant documentation is completed on delivery of concrete in accordance with customer requirements, workplace policies and procedures
  • 4.2 Vehicle is cleaned in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
