Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform basic tap dance techniques for small audiences. It involves using knowledge of influences found in tap dance when performing short tap dance sequences.The unit applies to those who have a foundational level of tap dance technique. They may have experience performing in amateur performances or attending multiple dance classes. At this level basic tap dance techniques are applied under the supervision of experienced dancers and dance teachers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop basic tap dance performance skills
- 1.1 Create practice plan for developing basic tap dance techniques which follows safe dance practices, in consultation with required personnel
- 1.2 Perform warm up routine according to safe dance practices
- 1.3 Develop variety of basic tap dance skills under guidance of a supervisor
- 1.4 Create and perform own choreography for short simple tap dance in a group format
- 1.5 Follow advice from others during class
2. Perform short tap dance routines
- 2.1 Discuss intention and key aspects of tap routine to be performed with required personnel, incorporating tap dance terminology and knowledge of influences in tap dance
- 2.2 Apply basic make-up and wear costume for performance as required
- 2.3 Perform simple routines combining discrete movements according to safe dance practices
- 2.4 Use props as required according to tap dance routine requirements
- 2.5 Follow direction from required personnel during performance
- 2.6 Observe and follow dictates of music and rhythm
3. Review performances
- 3.1 Evaluate own performance and use of basic tap dance techniques
- 3.2 Seek feedback from others on performance and use of tap dance techniques
- 3.3 Use own evaluation and feedback from others to develop strategy for improving tap dance techniques
