Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to apply automotive workplace safety fundamentals. It involves preparing for the task, and identifying basic workplace emergency and safety practices and procedures.It applies to those undertaking a Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) or pre-vocational qualification as preparation to entering the automotive service and repair or automotive manufacturing industry. The unit is designed for use in a highly supervised context and is not suitable for use in a vocational qualification.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Identify and apply basic safety practices and procedures in the workplace
  • 1.1 Own work responsibilities and workplace procedures that achieve a safe work environment are identified and followed
  • 1.2 Hazards associated with the workplace, including fire and safety hazards, are identified and communicated to team members and supervisor
  • 1.3 Safety requirements, including personal safety needs, are identified and confirmed with supervisor as consistent with job requirements
2. Identify and apply basic emergency procedures in the workplace
  • 2.1 Workplace site emergency procedures are identified
  • 2.2 Location of workplace safety alarms are identified
  • 2.3 Fire safety and firefighting equipment and appliances are identified
  • 2.4 Appropriate persons to be contacted in the event of accident or sickness of staff and customers are identified
  • 2.5 Workplace evacuation procedures are identified and followed
