Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to measure, trim, assemble and fit automotive and marine frames, canopies and side curtains to manufacturer specifications. It involves preparing for the task, selecting and using specialist equipment and materials and completing workplace procedures and documentation.The unit applies to those undertake routine installation tasks in the automotive and marine trimming, service and repair industry.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to install, frames, canopies and side curtains
- 1.1 Determine job requirements according to workplace instructions
- 1.2 Access and interpret original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications and product installation instructions
- 1.3 Select automotive or marine upholstery installation method for the identified job requirements
- 1.4 Identify hazards and environmental issues associated with work tasks, assess potential risks and implement control measures according to workplace policies and procedures
- 1.5 Select and source fabrication materials according to job requirements
- 1.6 Select and check installation tools and equipment and personal protective equipment for serviceability
2. Fabricate frames, canopies and side curtains
- 2.1 Measure and trim materials according to job requirements and workplace instructions
- 2.2 Fabricate and assemble upholstery according to workplace procedures and job and safety requirements
3. Install frames, canopies and side curtains
- 3.1 Install upholstery components according to manufacturer specifications, workplace procedures and safety requirements without interfering with existing components
- 3.2 Test upholstery components and adjust where required, according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Conduct final inspection and confirm vehicle is ready for use, according to road safety standards and operational requirements
4. Complete work processes
- 4.1 Clean work area, collect recyclable material and dispose of waste and non-recyclable materials
- 4.2 Check, tag, and isolate faulty tools materials and equipment according to workplace procedures
- 4.3 Store working tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
- 4.4 Document installation and testing process according to workplace procedures
