Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to conduct refuelling of vehicles and plant from a bulk fuel installation in a field environment to transfer fuel products between storage mediums within the installation.It includes preparing, conducting and completing refuelling and fuel transfer operations.This unit applies to persons working as petroleum operators in Defence but is applicable to any individual in this field of work.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work under supervision and perform specific tasks in a range of contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for and conduct refuelling and fuel transfer operations
- 1.1 Identify and confirm refuelling tasks with supervisor
- 1.2 Inspect and prepare refuelling equipment for operation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational procedures
- 1.3 Select and fit personal protective equipment to operate bulk fuel installation in accordance with safety data sheets, environmental and work health and safety procedures
- 1.4 Test for fuel contamination and quarantine, as required
- 1.5 Monitor fuel transfer process, and rectify and/or report faults in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational procedures
- 1.6 Recognise equipment breakdowns and emergencies/incidents, and instigate emergency response plan to shut down fuel transfer process in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational guidelines
2 Complete refuelling operations
- 2.1 Shut down, maintain and pack away refuelling equipment in the bulk fuel installation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational procedures
- 2.2 Recover, inspect and maintain fuel transfer equipment in accordance with operational procedures
- 2.3 Complete documentation, as required
- 2.4 Refurbish equipment in the fuel installation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational procedures
