This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use sizing standards that are required in the design, production and retailing of garments.This unit applies to individuals working in design and production roles.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Prepare to use sizing system
  • 1.1 Identify business approach to sizing standards and systems
  • 1.2 Establish intended purpose of the garment design
2. Analyse sizing requirements
  • 2.1 Analyse sizing requirements of garment and determine appropriate sizing system
  • 2.2 Read and interpret design specifications
  • 2.3 Analyse body measurements and body characteristics and establish their effect on sizing
3. Develop size chart
  • 3.1 Identify appropriate sizes from sizing system for the design
  • 3.2 Take necessary body measurements and record distinctive body characteristics
  • 3.3 Record and store sizing information in accordance with workplace procedures
