Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to coordinate outside broadcasts in media industries including setting up and monitoring live feeds and rectifying faults quickly and efficiently.It applies to individuals who work with minimum supervision and in the context of outside broadcasts, who are usually responsible for supervising others when coordinating outside broadcasts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for outside broadcasts
- 1.1 Determine scope and timelines of outside broadcast (OB) requirements in consultation with relevant personnel
- 1.2 Check equipment and organise repairs as required in readiness for OB
- 1.3 Determine a connection from OB point to program centre, conducting site surveys as required
- 1.4 Collaborate in pre-production sessions to ensure effective coordination of production and technical operations
- 1.5 Anticipate potential problems and discuss solutions or contingency plans with relevant personnel in line with creative, technical and budgetary requirements
2. Coordinate technical operations during outside broadcasts
- 2.1 Activate OB vehicle on location, where relevant, according to enterprise procedures
- 2.2 Install and safely test equipment at OB locations following industry regulations and standards
- 2.3 Establish and maintain signal and communication paths between OB point and program centre
- 2.4 Communicate effectively during OB with master control from OB point using enterprise protocols
- 2.5 Respond promptly and appropriately in the event of equipment failure
- 2.6 Monitor quality of signal from OB point and adjust as required
3. Finalise outside broadcast location operations
- 3.1 Check equipment is dismantled and stored according to enterprise procedures
- 3.2 Return OB location to original or improved condition
- 3.3 Document issues pertaining to the OB production as required
- 3.4 Ensure OB equipment is sent for repair as required
- 3.5 Collaborate in debriefing sessions with production personnel and note areas for improvement
