Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to develop and manage a catchment plan.It includes preparing for catchment management and developing, reviewing and refining the catchment plan. It also includes identifying issues impacting water yield and quality.This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for managers in water organisations with responsibility for the management of water catchments. Those undertaking this unit would work autonomously, leading staff, while performing sophisticated tasks in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for catchment
- 1.1 Identify and interpret catchment requirements according to relevant legislation, codes of practice, industry standards and workplace procedures
- 1.2 Identify and evaluate stakeholder requirements impacting catchment area
- 1.3 Gather historical catchment information and evaluate as input to the planning process
- 1.4 Identify, interpret and assess water quality and quantity requirements
- 1.5 Identify and interpret environmental factors and other relevant issues impacting catchment area according to regulatory requirements
- 1.6 Complete risk assessment to ensure catchment area is free from contamination causing no adverse impacts
2 Develop catchment plan
- 2.1 Interpret and validate stakeholder requirements impacting catchment area
- 2.2 Review and clarify organisational objectives and key performance indicators for catchment plan
- 2.3 Develop catchment plan according to specifications and regulatory requirements
- 2.4 Develop contingency plans based on risk analysis and stakeholder requirements
- 2.5 Evaluate the catchment plan to ensure compliance against specifications, stakeholder and regulatory requirements
3 Review and refine catchment plan
- 3.1 Obtain and assess data of catchment plan against specifications, stakeholder and regulatory requirements
- 3.2 Review objectives of the catchment and implementation plan and make recommendations for rectifications to ensure compliance against specifications, stakeholder and regulatory requirements
- 3.3 Communicate corrective actions to users and stakeholders regarding identified catchment area changes
- 3.4 Perform validation tests to ensure the reviewed plan is compliant against specifications and stakeholder and regulatory requirements
