Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to map and establish a supply chain process for a textiles, clothing or footwear (TCF) operation working with domestic or international suppliers and customers in the supply or receipt of products and services. It involves determining requirements, establishing commercial relationships, and working effectively within sector or organisational conditions, import/export regulations and resource requirements. This work is completed to support ethical supply chain management.This unit applies to individuals working in senior design and/or production roles who apply initiative and judgement to build an effective supply chain.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify supply requirements

1.1 Confirm projected requirements for TCF stock supplies, product quantities, quality and delivery schedules
1.2 Document identified issues and problems concerning projected requirements
1.3 Identify and confirm resources, supply requirements and availability of machines and personnel
1.4 Identify regular and occasional supply needs and document conditions
1.5 Determine the flow rate for each category of TCF product

2. Determine organisation requirements for suppliers

2.1 Establish business conditions and corporate social responsibility requirements for supply arrangements in consultation with senior management
2.2 Confirm specifications for raw materials, products and production processes
2.3 Establish appropriate testing procedures to confirm product and material quality
2.4 Analyse import and export rules and regulations for international sources to determine effect on supply conditions
2.5 Establish communication and documentation protocols

3. Establish supply chain process

3.1 Obtain and confirm specific information relating to TCF supply chain capacity
3.2 Establish internal processes to ensure receipt and supply of TCF products meet ethical practice, organisation conditions, quality standards and resource requirements
3.3 Collect and analyse information to assess purchasing organisation’s viability
3.4 Obtain terms of payment offered by each buyer, negotiate for advantage and analyse for impact on finances
3.5 Conduct ongoing research to assess new trends and conditions that may influence supply and demand

4. Establish ongoing monitoring arrangements for the supply chain

4.1 Maintain documentation and prepare reports to ensure supply chain information is accurate and current
4.2 Analyse performance indicators to assess supply efficiency and corporate social responsibility obligations
4.3 Identify and act to remedy poor performance areas
4.4 Incorporate strategies into the supply chain plan to support positive performance
