This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install and configure internal hardware components and evaluate the modified system according to client and user requirements.The unit applies to individuals who may work in responsible roles such as support desk technicians and who provide assistance in configuring internal hardware components in devices.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare to install internal hardware components
  • 1.1 Confirm work brief and tasks according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 1.2 Identify hardware installation requirements according to work brief
  • 1.3 Categorise device types requiring installation by characteristics according to work brief
  • 1.4 Determine suitability of devices aligned with hardware components according to work brief
2. Organise components
  • 2.1 Analyse existing internal hardware components
  • 2.2 Confirm user component requirements with required personnel
  • 2.3 Obtain technical vendor specifications for hardware components according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 2.4 Analyse component options according to work brief
  • 2.5 Select and source components according to policies and procedures
  • 2.6 Prepare components for installation according to organisational policies and procedures
3. Install components
  • 3.1 Plan for installation of components with minimum disruption to existing systems
  • 3.2 Confirm that plan includes prioritised tasks and contingency arrangements
  • 3.3 Seek approval for installation plan according to organisational requirements
  • 3.4 Configure hardware components according to plan
  • 3.5 Test components for functionality and document issues
  • 3.6 Identify solutions and rectify any issues within scope of own role and according to work brief
  • 3.7 Test system performance against organisational benchmarks
4. Evaluate modified system
  • 4.1 Review evaluation criteria for internal hardware components according to organisational requirements
  • 4.2 Seek feedback from required personnel on modified components
  • 4.3 Implement feedback from required personnel
