Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare to perform at a basic level for audiences in contexts such as small and large entertainment venues, festivals, corporate functions and community events.The unit applies to those who are pursuing a career as performers in the entertainment, theatre and events industries. They could be training to be actors, dancers, circus performers, musicians or vocalists. The following skills and knowledge are usually developed in private practice, rehearsal and performance settings and under supervision and guidance.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop live performance preparation plan
  • 1.1 Identify and confirm performance requirements with required personnel according to genre style and performance environment
  • 1.2 Identify characteristics of a successful and safe performance
  • 1.3 Assess performance ability relative to performance requirements
  • 1.4 Identify opportunities for performance improvement and discuss strategies for enhancing individual performance with required personnel
  • 1.5 Document preparation plan for live performance according to identified opportunities for improvement
  • 1.6 Discuss plan with required personnel and modify plan as required
2. Undertake live performance preparation
  • 2.1 Undertake physical exercises required to prepare for performance according to work, health and safety procedures
  • 2.2 Undertake psychological exercises required to prepare for performance
  • 2.3 Confirm standard of personal presentation with required personnel according to performance requirements
  • 2.4 Practise individual performance according to safety, rehearsal and performance requirements
  • 2.5 Participate in rehearsals and adjust performance techniques in response to feedback from required personnel
  • 2.6 Note possible stresses and strains of activity on body and mind and take required preventative measures
  • 2.7 Critically analyse own performance and performance of others during rehearsal
  • 2.8 Respond to required personnel and adjust own performance as required
3. Evaluate live performance preparation
  • 3.1 Record progress of preparation against pre-determined plan
  • 3.2 Identify divergences from plan and discuss why divergences occurred in consultation with required personnel
  • 3.3 Seek feedback from required personnel and agree on ways to improve live performance preparation
