Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and implement sports turf renovation activities, which involves the preparation of procedures, scheduling and coordination of staff, and monitoring and reviewing financial and renovation performance.The unit applies to greenkeepers and turf managers that use specialist skills to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of others within known parameters. They use discretion and judgment in the selection, allocation and use of available resources.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare the turf renovation program
- 1.1 Assess existing turf site plans and documentation to establish purpose of turf surface to be renovated
- 1.2 Determine the size of sports turf surface in need of renovation
- 1.3 Conduct field tests to establish renovation site conditions according to workplace and industry standards
- 1.4 Assess size of area and test results against purpose, and identify scope of renovations required
- 1.5 Identify and select materials and resources required for the identified renovation requirements
- 1.6 Identify workplace health, safety and environmental hazards, assess risks and identify controls
- 1.7 Develop a renovation program containing site assessment report, results of field measurements and tests, risk controls, and material and resource requirements
- 1.8 Develop and document a schedule of works and specifications for renovation program
2. Prepare renovation equipment
- 2.1 Review machinery maintenance logs to verify operational status for renovation activities
- 2.2 Conduct pre-operational and safety checks of tools, equipment and machinery
3. Implement the renovation program
- 3.1 Select work team and contractors, and coordinate work in a sequential, timely and effective manner
- 3.2 Organise and direct work according to the renovation schedule of works
- 3.3 Monitor renovation tasks against performance targets, and undertake remedial action where non-compliant
- 3.4 Monitor renovation work activities to maintain a clean and safe work environment
4. Complete renovation activities
- 4.1 Reconcile completed works against renovation plan objectives
- 4.2 Inspect equipment and machinery for operational status, and implement repairs
- 4.3 Record expenses and review against budget according to workplace financial procedures
- 4.4 Record and report turf renovation outcomes against planned objectives according to workplace requirements
