This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage production of a shift or section.It applies to individuals who perform a broad range of skilled tasks relating to the printing and graphic arts industry, and who may also provide some leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of the skills.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Identify requirements for efficient production
  • 1.1 Machine operations, staff and production processes are organised to meet production requirements
  • 1.2 Recommendations are made related to requirements and according to enterprise procedures, work health and safety (WHS) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements
  • 1.3 Quality standards and safe work practices are checked to ensure compliance with enterprise procedures and legislative requirements
2. Monitor production efficiency
  • 2.1 Compliance to specified requirements (including quality standards, time taken, wastage) is checked to ensure efficiency is maintained
  • 2.2 Non-compliance is identified, reported or recorded and investigated to determine causes
3. Implement improvements to production efficiency
  • 3.1 Corrective or preventive action is recommended and implemented where appropriate
  • 3.2 Changes are communicated to relevant personnel in a logical and easily understood manner
  • 3.3 Changes are monitored to confirm improvement to production efficiency
